How the Post-Purchase Follow-Up Automation Works

Practical notes on WordPress, servers, performance, security, and maintenance for businesses that want a serious online presence.

When someone buys from your WooCommerce store, they hand you something rare: attention and trust. The moment the order confirmation lands in their inbox, they are more open to hearing from you than they will be at any other point in the customer relationship. I built the Post-Purchase Follow-Up automation specifically to make use of that window, and I built it because I kept watching small store owners let it close without sending a single word.

The automation watches your WooCommerce order feed. Every time a purchase completes, it queues a timed sequence of three emails for that customer. The first goes out on the same day, a short note that confirms the order, tells the customer what happens next, and sets the tone for your relationship. The second lands on day two, a check-in that asks if there are any questions and reminds them where to find help. The third goes out on day seven, a light-touch message with tips for getting the most out of whatever they just bought, along with a gentle prompt to leave a review if their experience has been good.

Every message is personalised with the customer name, the product name, and the support URL you configure in your account dashboard. You do not need to write HTML email code. You provide the copy points and we format them into clean, readable messages that reflect your brand. The sequence stops automatically if the customer opens a support ticket, so you are never pushing follow-up at someone who is already waiting for help.

The Starter plan covers up to 200 purchase sequences per month. That is enough for most growing stores, and it uses the shared sending infrastructure we maintain, so you do not need to supply any SMTP credentials at all. You turn it on, you configure a few fields in your account area, and it starts working on the next order that comes in.

The Pro plan removes the monthly cap, so it scales with your store regardless of volume. It also lets you bring your own SMTP credentials, which matters if you already have a sending domain with a warm reputation, or if you want replies to go to a specific address in your own mailbox. The Pro plan additionally gives you control over the timing of each step. If your product is a digital download and day-two follow-up feels too soon, you can push it to day four. If you sell a physical product with a longer delivery window, you can adjust day-seven to land after the item has actually arrived.

I want to be direct about what this automation does not do. It is not a cart recovery tool, that is a separate product. It is not an upsell engine that pushes cross-sells on every email. The sequence is deliberately focused on the customer experience: confirmation, support, and a light review prompt. I kept it simple on purpose because most post-purchase email sequences I have reviewed fail not because they are too short but because they ask for too much too quickly and the customer unsubscribes after the first message.

From a practical standpoint, setting up the Starter plan takes about ten minutes. You log into your account, paste in your support page URL, write a sentence or two for each of the three emails, choose your language preference, and save. The automation handles the scheduling entirely. There is nothing to install on your WordPress site beyond the standard WooCommerce order hook we already use.

The Pro plan setup adds one extra step: you paste in your SMTP host, port, username, and password, and optionally adjust the day-two and day-seven timing. We run a test send when you save to confirm the credentials work before any real customer emails are queued. If you are using Gmail with an app password, Brevo, Postmark, or any standard SMTP provider, it connects without issue.

Both plans include bilingual English and Spanish template support. You write your copy in whichever language your customers expect, or both if your store serves a mixed audience. You can update the copy at any time and the change applies to all sequences triggered from that point forward.

The reason I price this at 29 euros per month for the Starter plan is that I am running the infrastructure, maintaining the WooCommerce integration, and keeping the sender reputation clean. You are not paying for a platform licence you never use. You are paying for a working automation that runs as long as your subscription is active.

If you have a WooCommerce store and you are not following up after purchases, you are leaving relationship-building to chance. This automation fixes that with no coding and no marketing platform to learn. It just runs.
